“There was a point in my career where I animated a scene in Pocahontas, where she’s being formed by the colors — by the wind, and I animated it in charcoal. And I thought, if I ever get a chance, I wanna animate something where my original drawing stays on the screen — because that was the only time my original drawings were actually seen by anybody; everything else was cleaned up.”
If Glen Keane takes on his own projects and does something like this, I will FREAK OUT. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!! That scene is one of my all-time favourite scenes of any animated film in the history of ever! Even when I was a little girl, that scene was one of the only animated disney songs I wouldn’t fast-forward through (haha for some reason I didn’t like music?), and it made me want to be an artist. Instead of singing about lovey-dovey disney couple junk (lol) it was about appreciating the beauty of the world, and I was just blown away when suddenly Pocahontas “became” the “colors of the wind” (as opposed to the crisp thin black lines of animation) — I thought it was frikkin’ magical. /ramble
So yeah. I hope Glen Keane does whatever the fuck he wants because I imagine it’ll be worth it.
